In the invisible world of optical fiber communication, there are many "invisible heroes", and the flange is one of them. Small in size and unremarkable in appearance, it is like an "exclusive socket" in the optical fiber link, silently opening up the "last mile" of optical signal transmission. Many people may not know that the professional name of the flange is actually Optical Fiber Adapter. From the broadband access in our homes to the high-speed communication in enterprise computer rooms and large data centers, it is indispensable wherever optical fiber connection is needed.
Many people confuse flanges with Fiber Optic Connectors, just like distinguishing between "plugs" and "sockets". In fact, the two have clear divisions of labor and cooperate tacitly. Among them,Fiber Optic Connectors are the "small connectors" at both ends of the optical fiber, equivalent to the "messengers" of communication signals, responsible for capturing and transmitting optical signals; while the flange, which we call Optical Fiber Adapter, is the "interface socket" specially used to connect these "messengers". Just like sockets have different models, flanges also come in various specifications to adapt to different types of Fiber Optic Connectors. Among them, Sc Fiber Adapter is the most common one in our lives. It has a square "little face", is very easy to plug and unplug, and has strong resistance to dust and pollution, requiring no frequent maintenance. Whether it is the interface used by the master to connect optical fibers when installing broadband at home, or the community monitoring system and the office network of small and medium-sized enterprises, most of them use Sc Fiber Adapter. When used with SC-type Fiber Optic Connectors, it can efficiently complete optical signal transfer and support half of daily communication.

In addition to the common Sc Fiber Adapter, the flange family also has different "members" such as LC and FC: the LC type is smaller in size, suitable for high-density cabling scenarios such as data centers, and can save a lot of space; the FC type has threads, which is more firmly connected and often used in industrial communication scenarios with extremely high stability requirements. Although they have different shapes and uses, their core mission remains unchanged — as Optical Fiber Adapter, they do not directly transmit optical signals, but can build a "bridge" for optical signal transmission by fixing and aligning Fiber Optic Connectors, reducing signal loss and making optical fiber communication more stable and efficient.

Simply put, without flanges (Optical Fiber Adapter), those scattered optical fibers and Fiber Optic Connectors would be like "plugs" with no place to connect, unable to form a complete communication link. Our mobile internet, video calls, enterprise data transmission, and even cloud storage would be paralyzed. Although it is small in size and simple in structure, without a gorgeous appearance, it silently supports the operation of the entire optical fiber communication system with its own "strength" and is an indispensable "invisible bridge" in our daily communication.
